Gold (2016)

Gold stars Matthew McConaughey — in a striking physical transformation — as a down-on-his-luck prospector who teams up with a geologist to chase a massive gold discovery, loosely inspired by the real-life 1990s Bre-X mining scandal. Directed by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) and shot with an eye from Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Elswit, the film also stars Édgar Ramírez, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Bruce Greenwood.

A large majority of the production filmed in and around Albuquerque, employing more than 150 New Mexico crew members alongside stops in New York and Thailand. halflife* provided dailies throughout the New Mexico shoot. The film went on to earn a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song, with McConaughey's transformative performance widely singled out by critics as a career highlight.
